Why does God want me to be my true authetic self?
Well, first and foremost He made you on purpose. He specifically made all your unique and multi-faceted desires and needs. He had a purpose in mind when He made you because God never wastes a word or a second of time; everything He does is phenomenally effective so when He made you He was very precise about why He needed you in the world and so not being your true self will not achieve his aims.
So what is God's aim anyway?
Well that's short and sweet... "that you may have and enjoy life to the full, in abundance 'til it overflows" (John 10:10) and that you will help others do the same! God is a giver, not a taker. Perhaps like me you were raised with some religious ideas about God but had no real idea of who He is. Well this is what I have come to understand about God that has rocked my world.
God is a gentleman, a best friend, a father, a business partner, a provider, a protector. He has a fabulous sense of humour, He is street wise, world wise, universally wise and reverent.
He has class, elegance and knows every intricate detail of what gets your attention enough to do wonderful things for you. Thins so personal that you can almost see his face shining through the clouds winking at you. In fact I don't believe God would mind me paraphrasing him that in today's language, if you could hear him speak when He does these amazingly personal things He would be saying, "Dude, just so you know it's me!" He's a father, He wants you to be proud of him.
Let's put God in perspective. His power created this Universe and if you have any doubt about the scope of what we have access to, if we ask and believe, here are just two facts:-
- to reach the nearest star alone we would have to get in a jet and travel non-stop for 51 billion years!
- he said "Let there be light." and not only is the light phenomenal it has never stopped shining since!
What is even more awesome is that God created this for you to live in and be happy and He only created it because He loves you so much that He is even jealous to spend time with you. Imagine that. The Big Guy with the most awesome power imaginable finds you so awesome that He just wants to spend time with YOU... this gives you an idea of just how much time He spent deciding your character and desires and dreams and how precious you are to the success of the world.
Keep in mind at all times that God is effective so if He made you to be the unique person you are He knew there was need for your personality, annointed skills and fulfilling your dreams was part of enhancing the quality of life here. Geekers how special are YOU!
More important even than this is that God asked his "only begotten son Jesus" to live on Earth and die for you because He considers you so valuable. He knew that you couldn't live up to the Ten Commandments so He asked Jesus to die to pay the price both for your past sins and those which you will fall into throughout the rest of your life.
God stands by his Word and the Ten Commandments were not God's inception, Moses asked for them to help guide the people and as God is a gentleman and respects our rights to choose and ask, He honoured Mose's request. However, God also has exquisite standards and if you ask for a rule then like Him (as we are made in His image) he expects us to live up to them... God says "Be hot or cold, not luke warm"... in other words, do it or don't do it but be consistent just as He is to us! Whatever he promises (and the Bible contains shocking promises about the abundance God promises is yours if you simply believe and live by his Word) he stands by His Word.
Our Father understands. He is more understanding and compassionate about your struggles than even your Earthly parents and those around you. He knew you could not live up to the Commandments long before Moses did and it must have pained him just like an Earthly father watching his child get injured after he warned him what would happen and he goes ahead and does anyway. In fact, it pained him so much that he sacrified his son to protect us from suffering. We cannot imagine any Earthly father sacrificing a brother so a sister could avoid pain.. that's the reality of how much God hurts when we hurt.
We cannot even comprehend the sacrifice Jesus paid to secure the unmerited favours that God says is yours if you ask him but the Bible carefully documents that the night before Jesus was to be crucified, when He prayed alone in silence He "sweated blood", that gives us an idea of the degree of stress He suffered for you. In fact when I read that I didn't even know it was possible but it is.
Now do you understand the importance of being authentic and listening to what truly makes you happy? When you are happy not only is God happy but He knows you will go about doing good because only when you feel good are you generally a kind person right? When you have a headache you have to make a real effort to at least be civil to anyone who talks to you! God knows that. God sees everything inside you... He suffers every time you suffer and He sees more than you acknowledge about how bad you feel and how unhappy with life you are. He hates it when your finances are worrying you, when you're arguing with your wife, your husband or the kids and every moment your body is sick and in pain...
... and does God want you to be wealthy? Heck yes! Where do you think the most beautiful designs come from for houses, Ferraris and restaurants... the universal mind of God. When we are excited, God is excited. In fact God makes a great business partner because he knows that the most philanthropic people are people who are wealthy and as he wants the lost to be helped so he WANTS us to have more because He knows we will get to a stage that we naturally want to give if all our needs are met!
Bottomline, it's an insult to the devotion God put into making you to live a life that hurts you... and to not follow your heart and your dreams causes a dis-service to the world and everyone in it.
YOU ARE DEEPLY LOVED AND HIGHLY FAVOURED.. BUT you have to understand this and fight for YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF.
HOWEVER, if the most powerful force in the universe is FOR YOU who can come against you? It's time to defend your right to be you, God is behind you all the way... he will help you be your self but he will never help you or support you to be someone else!
